Curragh is expecting a bumper line-up of thoroughbred racing stars on Sunday for the running of the Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Several horses from the English 1,000 Guineas have travelled to Ireland to have a second crack at Classic glory, including English 1,000 Guineas 2nd, 3rd and 5th - Spacious, Saoirse Abu and Nahoodh respectively.

Dermot Weld’s Mad About You and Caribbean Sunset are also being touted as contenders for the race.

The William Hill betting markets favour Nadooh to take the 2008 Irish 1,000 Guineas at odds of 4/1. Saoirse Abu is priced second in the betting markets at odds of 9/2 with Mad About you priced 3rd at odds of 5/1.

Caribbean Sunset is a fancied outsider of the 2008 Irish 1,000 Guineas titles. Priced at odds of 7/1 in the Irish 1,000 Guineas betting markets, Caribbean Sunset won two Irish 1,000 Guineas trials in the run up to this year’s race.

Trainer Pat Smullen believes she is capable of taking on the top fillies in the 2008 Irish 1,000 Guineas, saying: “She’s a very high-class filly and I think you would be very foolish to write her off. She’s got plenty of guts and that can outride ability sometimes.”
